Royal Blood

Royal Blood is a rock band out of Brighton that was formed by Mike Kerr and Ben Thatcher. Kerr is the band’s lead vocalist and bass guitarist. Thatcher is on drums. The pair, from West Sussex, met in 2005 as teenagers and played in a lesser-known band called Flavour Country.

Royal Blood was formed when Kerr came back from Australia. The band couldn’t land a gig for months, recalls the duo. The band went to open-mic nights to hone their skills. They would begin developing their music at Brighton Electric before being noticed and signed to Warner/Chappell Music.

“Out of the Black,” the band’s debut single came out on 11 November 2013. The single also featured “Come On Over” on the B-side. The band announced that they would be supporting Artic Monkeys for two shows at Finsbury Park in 2014. The two bands are signed to the same management company, making it a natural fit for both bands.

Royal Blood released their debut album, of the same name, on 25 August 2014. The band’s album quickly rose in the charts and became the fastest-selling British debut album in the previous three years. The band would play their first big tour in Europe in October 2014. The tour saw the band start in Germany and end in Sweden, with shows running from the beginning of January through the end of March.

The popularity of the band continued to increase through 2014 and 2015, with the band playing on the main stage during Reading and Leeds 2015.

“Hook, Line & Sinker,” a new song by the band, was revealed during one of the band’s performances on the stage. The band finished their debut album tour in October 2015.

How Did We Get So Dark?, the band’s second album, was released 16 June 2017. The record reached the top spot on the UK Albums Chart. The band released three singles for the album, including “Lights Out.”

The band announced that they would go on a four-show tour in the UK in April 2017, with the tour running from 17 May through 20 May. The band made a major announcement on 5 June that they would go on a European tour. The European tour, announced via social media, is set to played from October through November 2017.

The band has won several awards, including the 2015 awards from Best Live Band and Best New Band at the NME Awards. They also won Best British Group at the 2015 Brit Awards.
