John Legend: Darkness and Light Tour

John Legend announced his Darkness and Light Tour early in 2017 to help support his fifth studio album Darkness and Light. The tour’s original duration included shows starting in May and ending on June 30th in New Orleans.

Darkness and Light was released in December and featured collaborators from numerous different music genres, including Chance the Rapper and Brittany Howard.

“Love Me Now,” the album’s lead single, reached the top 25 songs on the top 100 charts. The tour will feature an array of songs from Legend’s latest album as well as songs from his other four albums.

Legend’s career has benefitted from collaborations, with the artist collaborating with established artists before releasing his own debut album. The ten-time Grammy Awards winner was inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame.

The Darkness and Light Tour is Legend’s first tour since 2014 when he was on his Love in the Future World Tour. He has only been on tour a total of five times in 2005, 2007, 2009, 2014 and 2017.

Legend’s debut album Get Lifted was released in December 2004 and featured big-name production, including Kanye West and will.i.am. The album sold 116,000 albums during its first week and debuted at #7 on the Billboard 200 in the United States.

The album would go on to be certified gold, selling 540,300 copies in the U.S. The album sold over 850,000 albums worldwide. Get Lifted won the Best R&B Album at the 2006 Grammy Awards.

Legend’s success propelled him to be one of the most sought-after artists in the industry. He graced several albums, including albums from Fergie, Mary J. Blige, Jay Z, Fort Minor and several others. He also wrote a single song for a future Michael Jackson album.

He then on went on to perform during Super Bowl Xl.

Gallant was the supporting act for the show and will warm up the crowd with songs from Ology, the singer’s Grammy nominated album. His energy will set the mood for the night. Considered a massive talent, Gallant is considered one of the next “big things” in R&B.

Legend makes his way to the stage on time, and his sets normally consists of a full two-hour performance. He is punctual and will show his professionalism to the stage. He will perform a variety of hits from his career, including a few piano serenades.

Legend is also known to discuss a few songs and memories he has of singing them with other artists or during special moments, such as his daughter’s birth.
