Blondie

Celebrating the release of their latest album Pollinator, Blondie is hitting the road with fall dates in the United States and the United Kingdom. The band will make stops in New York and New Jersey before heading across the pond to Nottingham, Cardiff, Brighton, Manchester, London, Brixton, Birmingham and Glasgow.

Pollinator is the band’s 11th studio album, and comes just two years after their previous release Ghosts of Download.
The new album blends the band’s iconic disco-punk-pop style with contemporary sound.

American rock band Blondie formed in 1974 in New York City by lead singer Debbie Harry and Chris Stein, guitarist. The band is credited as helping pave the way for the punk and new wave scenes in the late 1970s.

Blondie found success in Australia and the United Kingdom before going mainstream in the United States in 1978. The band released several hits over the next few years, including “Rapture,” “Heart of Glass,” and “Call Me.” They soon became known for their eclectic mix of music styles, which included reggae, pop, disco and even early rap.

The single “Call Me” spent 6 weeks at number one in the United States and Canada.

In 1982, just after the release of their sixth album The Hunter, the group split up. Debbie Harry pursued her solo career after taking a few years off to care for Chris Stein, her partner. Stein was diagnosed with an autoimmune disease of the skin.

In 1997, Blondie reunited and achieved commercial success two years later with the single “Maria,” which went to number one in the United Kingdom.

The band has continued to release albums and tour the world. In 2006, Blondie was voted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
Other hits from Blondie include “Rapture,” “One Way or Another,” “The Tide is High,” “Hanging on the Telephone,” and “Dreaming.”

Blondie has won several Q Music Awards, an NME Award for NME Godlike Genius, and a June Award for Best Selling Single. The band was also nominated for two Grammy Awards in the early 1980s and a Juno Award for International Single of the Year in 1980.

The group has sold more than 40 million records worldwide and continues to play in front of packed crowds. Debbie Harry, 72, and Chris Stein, 67, never disappoint the crowd. Blondie has staying power and still manages to innovate their sound decades after first forming – something that can’t be said of other bands from their era.
